Job Title: Homeroom Teacher
Reports to: Coordinator and HOS
Qualification
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or any related field
Position Summary
The teacher plays an essential role in shaping young people’s minds. He/She inspires his/her students to be passionate about learning and motivates them to create a positive impact in the world around them. The teacher acts as a role model, mentor, caregiver, and advisor. He/She is responsible for promoting enthusiasm for learning while ensuring that all students are safe, secure, and properly supervised.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The teacher’s duties include:
- working collaboratively and cooperatively with the HOS and the departmental team to support the school’s vision, mission, and the School Improvement Plan and to create a dynamic, aspirational, and academic environment
- working collaboratively and cooperatively with the coordinator and the departmental team to ensure that the school’s curriculum provides a safe, supportive learning environment for students
- helping promote cultural diversity where students learn to respect individual differences, take responsibility for their actions, exercise leadership and strive for academic excellence
- developing useful lesson plans that meet the Lebanese Curriculum’s objectives and implementing up-to-date teaching methods and activities that promote engagement and differentiation
- reassessing and adapting lesson plans to meet specific students’ needs
- being well-prepared for the lesson and delivering it in a way that ensures students’ understanding and participation, as agreed upon with the coordinator, keeping in mind the guidelines outlined in the observation and appraisal forms
- employing formative and summative assessments to check understanding and acquisition of explained concepts
- correcting assignments and providing feedback as agreed upon with the coordinator
- analyzing assessment results to identify areas of strengths and areas of improvement and to inform instruction
- keeping students’ records and identifying students in need of support
- developing an action plan to help students in need of support make steady progress and meet grade-level learning objectives
- keeping and maintaining records, such as lesson plans, reports, test analyses, book records… and being ready to share them with the HOS and the coordinator when requested
- providing a welcoming, safe, and positive learning environment for all the students and maintaining order and discipline in the classroom
- meeting deadlines set by the administration and the coordinator
- performing supervision duties as assigned by the HOS
- ensuring the classroom is clean, neat, organized, attractively decorated, and conducive to learning
- substituting other teachers when necessary
- keeping parents informed about their child’s progress and behavior and collaborating with them to solve any issue that negatively impacts the child’s learning
- attending all parent-teacher conferences
- attending all relevant school meetings / activities
- attending and conducting school’s workshops and seeking professional development opportunities whenever possible
- taking good care of the classroom and other materials, such as course books and references, and returning them to school whenever requested
- performing other duties as assigned by the coordinator and HOS
